Breeder's Achievement Award

The Breeder's Achievement Award is designed to encourage members to breed a variety of different species. The award has been adopted by a number of different aquarium societies within Australia as a common indication of achievement. It consists of a series of lapel pins, each awarded as the breeder reaches increasing numbers of species bred.

Rules Governing Breeders Achievement Awards
1. Fish are counted as separate species only if the Latin or scientific name is different. Colour varieties within the same scientific species are considered to be one species.
2. The parent fish and fry must be inspected within two weeks of the fry swimming. A second inspection must take place sixty days from hatching. Inspection must be made by a financial member of an aquarium society.

Registration forms are available from the Breeder's Achievement Awards Secretary and are lodged with the secretary to register a valid claim.

Cyril Callam Trophy

The Cyril Callam Trophy, commemorating a past President and Patron of the Society, is an annual home competition for the best display aquarium. Trophies are awarded in two classes: Planted Tanks and Non-planted or Cichlid type tanks. This also includes Marine and Coldwater aquaria. Each class has an Open Section, Junior Section and a Novice Section. Judging takes place in late October with entry process advertised in "Fishtales".

Open Section is for all comers with no limits on aquarium size or type.

Junior Section is limited to members under 18 years of age, again no specification limits on type or size of aquarium.

Novice Section is for first time entrants of any age. Both Novice and Junior entrants are automatically qualified for the open section.

Judging is done according to a formula appropriate for the type of tank. Sample categories include; General Impression, Decor, Fish Health and maturity etc.

Judges and photographers travel to each entrant's home on judging day, to evaluate and record each entry. The results will be announced during the Presentation Night in December. Copies of the judging video is sometimes available at a reasonable price to interested entrants.

Elaine Turner Trophy

The Elaine Turner Trophy commemorates a former Life Member of our Society and is designed to encourage the breeding of fish and to promote species maintenance. A perpetual trophy will be awarded to the member who has successfully bred the highest number of different species with the competition year. The winner will also be awarded with a personal trophy, to be presented on Awards Night at the December meeting.

The rules governing the Elaine Turner Trophy are as follows
1. Any financial member of EDAS is eligible to enter the competition.
2. Claims must be submitted to the BAA secretary using the appropriate forms.
3. The competition shall include only those fishes hatched between 1st September and 31st August inclusive, of the following year.
4. Completed forms must be handed to the BAA secretary at or before the November General Meeting. A financial member of a recognised Aquarium Society must witness the forms.
5. Species that are claimed in any year may be bred again for inclusion in any subsequent year.
6. Claims for species for inclusion in the Elaine Turner Trophy does not preclude them from being claimed for the BAA or New Fish Bred records.
